Get Out with the Family this Earth Day

Earth Day is all about celebrating the great outdoors, appreciating nature and giving back to the community. It’s also perfect for spending quality time with the whole family.

Here are our top five favorite ways to get out and enjoy Earth Day this year:

Go on a Hike

Grab your BOB V stroller and take a hike with the kids this Earth Day. Getting your little ones into hiking at an early age is a great way to ensure they’ll love the outdoors as they get older. Remember to bring some water, snacks and entertainment to keep them occupied along the way.

Volunteer at a Park

One of the best ways to celebrate Earth Day is by giving back to the community. Call around to local parks to see if they are accepting volunteers for picking up litter. This is a nice way to get outside while also teaching your children the importance of keeping the environment clean.

Plant a Tree

Planting a tree can be fun for kids of all ages, and also helps promote a cleaner environment. Check with your neighborhood, a park, or a low-income housing development to see if they would like a tree planted. In its average lifetime, one tree can help clean up $62,000 of air pollution.

Arrange a Scavenger Hunt

Put together a scavenger hunt somewhere safe like a local park. Invite kids from the neighborhood to participate, leaving clues in hidden spots around the designated area. Tie in Earth Day by incorporating green activities into the clues if your children are old enough.

Go Star Gazing

Take the family to a park or clear patch of land during the early evening, when the stars are first starting to shine. Bring a blanket, some snacks and a telescope for gazing at the sky. Observing stars will get your little ones thinking about the world around them this Earth Day.

Remember–it doesn’t have to be Earth Day to explore outside with the whole gang. Take advantage of this beautiful time of year by planning more activities that get you out and keep you active.
